This is a remind that I would like to invite you to the official opening ceremony of the Los Angeles West Central Office of the United States Census Bureau. The ceremony will be approximately one hour and will be followed by a tour of the operational facility and social period where community members and students will have the opportunity to meet the elected officials that represent them, the LA West Central Office managers and staff, various community leaders and news organizations that will be covering the event. Preparations for the 2010 Census are now under way. As you know, the results of the 2010 Census are critically important to decision makers. They are the basis for determining political representation at the Federal, State, and Local levels. Census results also directly affect the distribution of billions of dollars for programs and services, as well as public policy and business decisions.
We would like to have both the guests and speakers reflect the wonderful diversity that is present within our boundaries. For instance we have more than 5 languages spoken, including English, Spanish, Korean, and Japanese, as well as a multitude of ethnicities. As one of the representatives from these communities, we hope that you can attend to express the importance of the census both in terms of the federal dollars at stake and representation at all levels of government.
The 2010 Census Bureau operations within the area you represent will begin with the opening of the Local Census Offices (LCOs). The LA West Central Office is the main operational hub of the Greater Los Angeles Area and will provide field management, administrative, recruiting, community outreach and automation support to our area. This LCO will employ thousands of residents in our various communities including Korean-American community.
