Immigrants Are LA Campaign Urges the Board of Supervisors for a #NoExclusions Spending Plan for the American Rescue Plan Funds

Los Angeles, CA – The Immigrants are LA campaign which represents over 85 immigrant rights, legal service and advocacy organizations, will convene the coalition at the LA County Board of Supervisors Offices in Downtown LA to urge the Board to embrace a budget that prioritizes individuals previously excluded from COVID related economic relief resources and ensures a just recovery for all.
The campaign is anticipating the spending plan to be unveiled on July 27th by LA County CEO Fesia Davenport, but there has been no indication from that office on whether all immigrant communities will be included in this round of pandemic relief. Coalition leaders have been meeting with staff and representatives of the Supervisors’ offices asking them to ensure the County’s ARP spending plan includes dedicated resources for immigrants of all statuses. The Coalition is calling for the County plan to have #noexclusions of Angelenos of any status, and for an intentional plan to effectively reach and distribute pandemic relief using local trusted community based organizations and diverse languages.
"Immigrants have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, suffering high job loss and COVID-infection and mortality rates. Still, they have been left out of recovery efforts, even though they pay billions in taxes and contribute so much to the makeup of Los Angeles,” said Aquilina Soriano, Executive Director, Pilipino Workers Center. “We urge the Board of Supervisors to ensure that everyone is equally assisted by allocating funding for those that have been unable to access resources."
