KOREAN RESOURCE CENTER APPOINTS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR T.C. KIM
The board of the Korean Resource Center (KRC) appointed Tong Cho (“TC”) Kim to serve as the Executive Director of the 37-year old organization, serving immigrant families, seniors, and Dreamers in Southern California.
As an organization that is dedicated to social justice, KRC has a long history of providing critical social services and education for community empowerment focused on seniors, limited and mono-lingual Korean community members who are low-income, and immigrants who seek a better life in this country.
TC Kim brings an extensive set of skills and experiences to the work that KRC currently has taken up. His commitment to being in service to the Korean American community in Los Angeles and other parts of the state, span more than three decades and includes support for victim assistance working on domestic violence; leading a shelter that provided housing for women and children escaping violence in their homes, and youth leadership development through service to community. His experience includes leading nonprofit organizations, and serving on various boards ranging from anti-racism organization, YWCA; counseling center at Korean American Family Service Center, and program leadership at Korean American Youth Association.
“The KRC board is looking forward to working with TC Kim as it pivots its experiences from 2019 toward the critical needs that have arisen in 2020, including the pandemic of COVID-19; and the need for anti-racism work to build greater understanding among Korean society and the mainstream on the critical need for systemic change through education and organizing around justice in institutions such as law enforcement, the justice system, and immigration agencies.” Said Angela Oh, board chair.
KRC Board members also want to express deep appreciation for the long-standing work and ally in Dae J. Yoon, former board president, executive director, and senior advisor to programs. TC Kim reflects, “I have met DJ and found him to be very insightful and experienced in building a movement for justice. I know his commitment to that movement and KRC will stay strong and he knows that KRC will always be a home for his energy and dedication.”
The work of KRC continues to focus on informing the community it serves about COVID-19 and resources available to the public, in addition, there will be programming directed at supporting seniors, health access, immigration advocacy, hate incidents, and youth leadership development. The organization is grateful for the support of its funders and supporters, all of whom demonstrated confidence in the ability for the Korean Resource Center to continue serving its core constituents and allies.
