KRC 2020 Election Statement
After anxiously awaiting the results of the general election, on Saturday November 7th, the media announced Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential race. There was a huge sigh of relief among many, including immigrant rights advocates like KRC. Along other advocacy organizations, solidarity rights groups, and members of the community, KRC has struggled every step of the way to defend our communities from the constant barrage of anti-immigrant rhetoric that this administration has unleashed on our many communities of color.
In our own state of California we have been victorious in electing more progressive leaders and passing a number of propositions and measures that will make positive impacts in the lives of many for years to come. These triumphs are the results of continued organizing efforts that advocated for more equitable policies for all our communities.
We recognize the importance of sound and functional policies that a good government will be able to implement. At KRC, we are committed to continue requiring from this and the Biden administration, a progressive and socially just, forward looking, environmentally sound, and accountable government. We expect processes ensuring the practice of a transparent, accountable, by the people, for the people system of a government to be placed, and protected.
As we work toward rebuilding the nation from so much harm suffered by all our communities of color, we should be expecting a drastic reduction in mass detentions and deportations, family separations, and the rolling back of all the disastrous executive orders under the departing administration. DACA should be fully reinstated, according to the last court order, allowing thousands more immigrant youth to be safe from removals. We have not a minute to waste to make the Senate possible for the Dreamers who are still waiting for the Dream Act. We only need to make the Congress whole and functional again.
Each of us have to work hard now to build a solid path forward towards a radical immigration reform, and a just society for all. We need each of us to raise our voices and struggle collectively, supporting each other more than ever. We will remain steadfast in our fight each day. We will continue to keep all our city, state and federal representatives accountable and demand that they hear our voices and enact favorable laws and policies that will provide each one of our community members the protection and basic rights that make for a healthier and a stronger society. We will not only survive but will thrive in this country. Join our community of believers and doers at KRC. We can do it, 할수있다!, si se puede!
